The Medford Parks and Recreation Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c) (3), was established in 2005. The Foundation was looking to create a signature event that would raise awareness and funds for the organization and the Play Every Day Scholarship Fund.
Parks Uncorked was developed by Shelyea Erlan and Brian Sjothun. Event planning began in November 2007 and the first ever Parks Uncorked took place in March 2008. This event featured just three wineries with approximately 60 people in attendance. Held at the Carnegie Building and sponsored by ORW Architecture and Premier West Bank, the 2008 event raised $1,085.
In 2009, the event was moved to the Santo Community Center and in 2013 U.S. Cellular Community Park became the venue. The event was previously held in late October, however many of the wineries requested a move to the spring or early summer in order to avoid the harvest/crush season that takes place in the fall. The Foundation Board made a decision to not host an event in 2012 and move future events to either late spring or early summer.
The 2019 event raised $23, 688! Since the inception of the event, Parks Uncorked has provided $220,000 to both Rotary youth programs and the Play Every Day Scholarship Fund, providing over 1,600 children with recreational opportunities offered by the Parks & Recreation.
MANY THANKS TO OUR 2019 SPONSORS…WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
